Theory research: Gauntlet

According to Gauntlet and Giddens, media doesn’t create identities but it reflects them due to the shift from traditional values and globalisation effects. Here is an essay that talks about this change (link). One of its argument it that the media has been very interactive. (not only does recent mass media but also the traditional media)

“In the early days of the radio industry, audiences (primarily via fan mail) played an integral role in the creation of radio programs, as producers and writers frequently incorporated suggestions received from audience members into their scripts” (Razlogova, 1995).

However, it suggests how they interact has been changed. In the past it used to be throwing stuffs at the actor while they were performing, but now it has changed due to the development of the internet. According to Cover (2006), the developed media technologies “effectively restore to the audience their capacity to participate”. This suggests that the audience can now create media product by themselves.

Therfore, my mag will allow the audience to interact. In order to make this possible, my mag will allow them to create a printed magazine. – the ability to create and customise photographs will, in the end, satisfy the desire of the K-pop consumer to own a unique image that reflects their preferences.
